Case Understanding

Our company uses drones to carry out hyperlocal delivery of products. The short-range drones used can deliver up to 10Kg of weight to 5Km within 15 minutes. The company has already invested about 1.5 crores in the business and we are given the budget of 10cr which needs to be utilized in such a way so that we can achieve breakeven within one year of operations. Also to establish the brand in the market along with providing quality and timely delivery for the clients there need to be a major focus on marketing to spread awareness in the entire country. In the long run, the company wants to become the market leader and for that, it has to invest majorly in innovation and geographically spread so to get advantage of economies of scale. Being a leader, my major focus will be ensuring standardization in operations and ensuring proper coordination amongst all departments.

BCS Solution Summary

For breaking even in the first year of operations our major business model will be focused on B2B services in which we will tie up with major food delivery partners, pharmaceuticals, etc and for becoming the market leader in the coming years we will start with B2C model as well wherein customers can directly get the benefits of our courier services. For establishing the brand we will go with a mix of offline and online marketing to spread maximum awareness and clients as well

Solution

The case solution can be summarized into 3 parts:
•    Reaching break-even in the first year of operations:
To achieve break-even in the first year of operations of the business, the company needs to focus on building B2B business as it can help in getting a larger volume of orders from the same client. Our major focus will be food delivery partners, pharmaceuticals, and other 3pl providers and their clients since drone solutions are easily scalable and highly customizable.
The main USP of our services will be the reduction in total time required for delivery which is the main problem faced by delivery partners especially in tier1 and tier 2 cities due to ever-rising traffic. As in the first year, we want to create maximum awareness and get on board as many partners as we can, so for that, we can provide some discount as well which can be removed in the coming years
We will start our operations in 4 cities Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Delhi as we can get maximum clients from these top cities of India. To manage operations the following number of drones will be used:

•    Brand Establishment
For any established brand in the market, one thing is common, which is proper communication and coordination amongst departments and to ensure that, the company will keep track of the all the activities done by the specific departments in a separate sheet which will be accessible by all the departments in the country and accordingly it will help in smooth functioning amongst the departments. 
Also, major focus will be given on marketing for the brand establishment and for that we have kept a good chunk of our budget to improve the awareness of our company in the market
•    Becoming a market leader
To become the market leader, “Pushpak” should become a household name and for that, we will get into B2C market where consumers an directly get the services of Pushpak. For that, we will launch our own application which will be available on IOS and Android. We will start our services in Tier2 and tier 3 cities as well as there is a major opportunity in these markets which is still untapped and through our innovation and R&D we can do profitable business in these markets as well
